Ukraine Regains Complete Starlink Service Following Frustrating Slowdown
Ukraine said the Starlink internet service is now back to full capacity after a recent dip that President Volodymyr Zelensky described as painful and frustrating.
The bandwidth cut, which started earlier this month, disrupted civilian messaging and military coordination, sparking worries about the dependability of the satellite link that has served as a digital lifeline since Russia's 2022 invasion.
Operated by SpaceX, Starlink was introduced in Ukraine to circumvent shattered ground networks, providing high‑speed connectivity for government broadcasts, medical operations and battlefield drones.
Authorities identified a short‑term bottleneck at regional ground stations as the cause of the slowdown. SpaceX technicians rerouted traffic and boosted capacity, restoring the network to its usual throughput.
Zelensky stressed that continuous internet access is vital for command, control and public information, calling the outage “painful and frustrating” for both the armed forces and ordinary citizens.
The fix comes as Kyiv readies a new stage of its counter‑offensive, depending on real‑time intelligence and secure communications, while analysts caution that any future blackout could reveal weaknesses in Ukraine's digital defence framework.
SpaceX has vowed to maintain a dedicated bandwidth allocation for Ukraine and is looking into expanding satellite coverage across Eastern Europe, as NATO partners continue to evaluate further assistance for satellite‑based connectivity in conflict zones.
