Oukitel Unveils WP63 Tough Smartphone, Review Highlights Odd Model Numbering and Sturdy Build

In its newest hands‑on piece, TechRadar presents the Oukitel WP63, the latest addition to the Chinese company's rugged phone lineup, noting that it follows the higher‑numbered WP66 and thereby highlighting the brand’s atypical naming scheme.

Oukitel has carved out a market segment by catering to individuals who require a handset capable of withstanding drops, dust, water and extreme heat or cold. Its devices enjoy popularity with field professionals, adventure seekers and buyers in severe climates, where durability often outweighs a flagship’s high‑end camera.

Continuing this legacy, the WP63 sports a strengthened frame, an IP68 water‑resistance rating, and a battery that TechRadar says can power a full day of intensive use. The evaluation also points out that the screen stays readable under bright sunlight and that the phone delivers dependable performance for routine activities, despite not pursuing the newest processor scores.

What catches the eye, though, is the apparently reverse model numbering. Although the WP66 hit the market months before, the later‑announced WP63 seems to act as a successor instead of a predecessor. Oukitel has not provided an official rationale, and the review speculates that the numbers might mirror internal development phases rather than release order—a tactic that could bewilder customers tracking the series.

The main point for buyers is that the WP63 offers the ruggedness Oukitel is known for while retaining essential smartphone features, irrespective of its slot in the lineup. Analysts will be monitoring if the company later explains its naming approach, since a more transparent product hierarchy could enable it to better rival other rugged‑phone makers and broaden its reach beyond its existing niche.
