Sony Rolls Out Major Expansions and Official GTA 6 Controllers in Dual State of Play Broadcast

In the most recent State of Play, PlayStation aired a back‑to‑back double‑header that introduced a variety of new offerings across both forthcoming games and hardware. Headlining the show were expansion packs for the open‑world RPG Crimson Desert and the fantasy action title Ghost of Yōtei, as well as a collection of officially licensed controllers for the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto VI.

Regarding Crimson Desert, Sony revealed a sizable post‑launch expansion that will bring additional territories, quest lines, and gameplay mechanics to Pearl Abyss’s expansive desert world. Although a precise launch window was not disclosed, the trailer suggested the content is slated for release later this year, marking a major milestone in the game’s live‑service plan. The developers noted that the new zones will widen the story’s scope, delivering extra narrative arcs and deeper character development.

The Ghost of Yōtei segment highlighted a downloadable content pack that widens the game’s mythic landscape with new locations and enemy varieties. The reveal showcased a fresh “Shadows of the Mountain” chapter, blending classic folklore with contemporary combat mechanics. Similar to Crimson Desert, the studio hinted at a launch in the near term but refrained from giving an exact date, emphasizing a focus on quality rather than speed.

On the hardware side, Sony unveiled a series of dedicated Grand Theft Auto VI controllers created in collaboration with Rockstar Games. These accessories sport a matte‑black finish, allow button remapping, and include an optional “Turbo” trigger for racing segments. Sony’s hardware team demonstrated how the controllers integrate seamlessly with the PlayStation 5, supporting both the upcoming title and existing GTA V content. The company said pre‑orders for the controllers will open shortly after the broadcast, tying in with the larger GTA VI promotional campaign.

Beyond the marquee announcements, the double‑header also alluded to forthcoming updates to current PlayStation services and teased further game reveals later in the year. Analysts interpret the slate as a calculated move by Sony to keep its audience engaged across a varied portfolio, pairing fresh content for rising franchises with tangible hardware aimed at the franchise‑focused crowd. As the PlayStation ecosystem evolves, these upcoming expansions and peripherals are expected to be instrumental in maintaining player interest while attracting new users to the platform’s expanding catalogue.
