Modder exploits legacy game code and AI to jailbreak Nintendo Switch 2

A hacker has shown that Nintendo's eagerly awaited Switch 2 can be breached, running a custom‑built Mario Kart World via a functional jailbreak.

The breach relies on code pulled from a legacy Nintendo game, which the modder submitted to OpenAI’s Codex—an AI capable of producing code fragments. Using the AI‑generated snippets, the attacker circumvented the console’s defenses and injected unsigned code.

In the live demo, the altered title showcased a varied lineup of racers such as Sanrio’s Cinnamoroll, the red Angry Bird, animated sitcom figure Peter Griffin, and Minecraft’s Steve. Their presence underscored the creative freedom a jailbroken console can afford to fan‑crafted content.

The breakthrough rekindles the long‑standing friction between Nintendo and the home‑brew scene. Prior Switch models experienced comparable exploits that enabled emulators and unofficial applications, leading Nintendo to roll out firmware patches and occasionally take legal steps against vendors of hacking utilities.

Analysts point out that AI platforms such as Codex might speed up the identification of flaws in many consumer devices. Automating portions of the coding workflow can reduce the technical hurdle required to craft working exploits.

Nintendo has yet to release an official comment on the incident. Experts anticipate a security patch in forthcoming firmware releases and say the firm will watch for possible copyright or trademark violations arising from the unapproved inclusion of third‑party characters.
