Meta rolls out Muse AI assistant to iPad following quick mobile launch
Meta has made its generative AI assistant, Muse, available to iPad owners, arriving only a month after the tool first appeared on smartphones. This step continues the company's push to expand its conversational AI throughout the consumer hardware lineup.
Muse debuted on Android and iOS in early September and is marketed as a multimodal assistant that can produce text, images and code from natural‑language prompts. Extending it to iPad lets Meta take advantage of the tablet’s bigger display, making intricate tasks—like writing papers or refining visual ideas—more comfortable than on a phone.
The iPad edition replicates the mobile feature set, letting users launch Muse via a stand‑alone app or built‑in system shortcuts. Meta notes that the interface has been tuned for touch and Apple Pencil use, so users can draw concepts and obtain AI‑driven enhancements instantly.
Analysts see the rapid rollout as evidence that Meta aims to pit Muse against other AI assistants such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, both already available on multiple platforms. By reaching phones and tablets in just weeks, Meta intends to secure a wide audience before competitors become commonplace on desktop OSes.
In addition to user convenience, the expanded launch highlights Meta’s long‑term plan to weave AI features into its entire product suite, from the Threads social app to the forthcoming Horizon virtual reality platform. Cross‑device integration could enable smooth transitions—for instance, beginning a chat on a phone and picking it up on an iPad without losing context.
Although Meta has not released usage figures, the swift rollout indicates confidence in Muse’s ability to scale. Upcoming releases are likely to deepen ties with Meta’s other services and perhaps add third‑party plugin support, a pattern emerging in the AI‑assistant space. Consequently, the iPad debut acts as both a practical addition for users and a testing ground for capabilities that could later roll out to desktops and new hardware.
