This week, Hugging Face published a report that disputes the most dire forecasts concerning AI‑powered cyber attacks, arguing that the technology still cannot carry out completely autonomous, end‑to‑end operations without considerable human supervision.

Recent years have seen a dominant storyline claiming that AI will sharply reduce the technical hurdle for crafting malicious software, that generative models can churn out new malware strains on request, and that upcoming assaults might be coordinated largely by machines. Such predictions have been echoed in think‑tank briefings, conference sessions and mainstream tech commentary.

The fresh analysis notes, however, that most of those projections originate from futurists and AI aficionados rather than from frontline analysts who track actual threat activity. Security groups have yet to witness a wave of attacks that are entirely generated, launched and overseen by AI without human input.

Scholars and policymakers should concentrate on the tangible applications of AI today—like accelerating vulnerability scans or assisting in phishing content generation—rather than on hypothetical scenarios that have yet to materialize.
