Cyberpunk 2077 2.5 Patch Introduces Console Modding and Edgerunners-Themed Content
CD Projekt Red has launched a substantial 2.5 update for Cyberpunk 2077 that brings cross‑platform mod support to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles and the forthcoming Switch 2, while also adding new material linked to the Netflix series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
The modding feature, previously confined to PC, will now enable console players to download and activate community‑created alterations straight from the game’s menu. By adopting the same mod‑distribution system employed on PC, the developer seeks to provide console users with a similar degree of customization without external utilities.
Compatibility is confirmed for the current Sony and Microsoft hardware generations, and the update includes a placeholder for the next‑generation Nintendo Switch model expected later this year. Gamers will be able to explore curated mod collections—spanning visual shaders to gameplay tweaks—via an in‑game browser that taps into the same repositories that power the PC version.
Beyond the technical enhancements, the patch introduces a range of items and missions inspired by the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Fresh character skins, vehicle liveries and side quests echo the anime’s aesthetic and narrative beats, allowing fans to experience the show’s influence within Night City.
The release arrives as part of CD Projekt Red’s wider post‑launch plan, which has centered on stabilizing the base game and growing its live‑service components. Prior updates tackled performance concerns and added quality‑of‑life tweaks; this rollout marks the first large‑scale extension of community‑driven content to consoles.
Analysts observe that adding mod support to consoles could extend the game’s lifespan and draw in players who were previously wary of a PC‑centric ecosystem. While the company has not set a timetable for further console‑specific features, the inclusion of Edgerunners‑related assets signals an ongoing effort to align the title with the franchise’s expanding media footprint.
